Argos farmer speaks out after being targeted repeatedly by cattle thieves

An Argos farmer is down on his luck after being the target of cattle rustlers multiple times.

First, Hal Sullivan of Argos noticed that there were fewer cattle on his land. Neighbors eventually told him they'd seen a trailer pull up in the middle of the day, load his animals, and haul them away. Soon some of the cattle was later located at the Topeka Sale Barn.

But, it's what Sullivan says the perpetrator did after, that makes this case stand out.

When Sullivan contacted police they were able to put a hold on the cattle, and pin-point a suspect.

That individual then attempted to get rid of the evidence and once again stole the cattle, this time from the sale barn.

Sullivan says that man then dumped the animals at the Ohio state line.

Now, the defendant in this case is submitting a plea agreement. However Sullivan says the consequences need to be more serious for this man considering he lost around 80-thousand dollars worth of cattle.

“He don’t have to pay no restitution,” says Sullivan. “He did a plea agreement. Justice was not served. If your robbed a band and took 80 thousand dollars. I bet you wouldn’t just be wearing an ankle bracelet. What’s the difference?”

Vince Hoffman the owner of the Rochester Sale Barn says, “It shocks you that people have the nerve to do something like that, makes you wonder how safe your barn is, we have chains, we have locks. Hal is a prime example. He’s got cameras, chains, locks. People aren’t afraid to try it.”

Sullivan's farm was targeted again last week.

He thinks this time rustlers got away with about 20 of his cattle.

There is a hearing Thursday morning. Sullivan plans to object to the plea agreement.
