Area schools receive grant money for safety improvements

SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- Grant money is on its way to Indiana schools to help improve security.

Governor Mike Pence awarded $9 million in "Secured School Safety Grants."

The money matches school contributions for things like threat assessments, safety equipment, and school resource officers.

Below is a breakdown of how the money is being spent in local school districts:

SRO- Is a Safety Resource Officer

Elkhart
• Baugo Community Schools was awarded $25,000 to employ an SRO and for equipment.
• Concord Community Schools was awarded $24,872 for equipment.
• Elkhart Community Schools was awarded $50,000 for equipment.
• Fairfield Community Schools was awarded $37,316 for equipment.
• Goshen Community Schools was awarded $50,000 for equipment.
• Middlebury Community School Corporation was awarded $45,647 for equipment.
• Wa-Nee Community Schools was awarded $50,000 to employ an SRO and for equipment.

Fulton
• Rochester Community School Corporation was awarded $50,000 to employ an SRO.
• Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation was awarded $20,822.34 for equipment.

Knox
• North Knox School Corporation was awarded $50,000 to employ an SRO and for equipment.
• South Knox School Corporation was awarded $40,430.52 to employ an SRO, for equipment, and for administration.
• Vincennes Community School Corporation was awarded $18,500 to employ an SRO and for equipment.

Kosciusko
• Wawasee Community School Corporation was awarded $50,000 for equipment.
• Whitko Community School Corporation was awarded $50,000 to employ an SRO.

LaGrange
• Lakeland School Corporation was awarded $50,000 for equipment.
• Prairie Heights Community School Corporation was awarded $49,441.50 to employ an SRO.
• Westview School Corporation was awarded $10,375 for equipment.

Marshall
• Plymouth Community School Corporation was awarded $35,000 to employ an SRO and for equipment.
• Triton School Corporation was awarded $13,100 for equipment.

Pulaski
• Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation was awarded $17,302.43 to conduct a threat assessment and for equipment.

St. Joseph
• John Glenn School Corporation was awarded $27,000 to employ an SRO and for equipment.
• School City of Mishawaka was awarded $25,000 to employ an SRO.
• South Bend Community School Corporation was awarded $48,920 for equipment.
• Union-North United School Corporation was awarded $50,000 for equipment.

Starke
• Knox Community School Corporation was awarded $30,752.60 for equipment.
• Oregon-Davis School Corporation was awarded $32,000 to employ an SRO.
