Apartment fire displaces five families

Warsaw - An apartment building goes up in flames leaving five families homeless.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. in Warsaw on Friday night. The fire broke out in the basement apartment of a multi-family home in the 400 block of E. Arthur Street.

A resident living in one of the units made the initial 911 call to the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory.

Winona Lake Fire Department, Plain Township/Leesburg Fire, and Pierceton Fire Department also assisted. Altogether around 50 firefighters were on scene battling the blaze.

According to the Stacey Page Online, the north-south Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks were also shut down during the blaze.

The American Red Cross is helping four of the displaced families.
