Annual Marian High School Toys for Tots drive held Friday

Some people look for reasons to dress up during the holidays, but Friday at Marian High School, the goal was to dress down. And it was all for a good cause.

For the past 13 years, the Marian High Hockey Team has been in charge of the school's annual Toys for Tots Collection. Each year the team asks students to donate a toy, or $5 too Toys for Tots.

In exchange, they get to dress down for the day, giving them a chance to get out of their typical khaki pants and collared shirts. Marines were also on hand Friday morning to accept the toys and cash donations at the school.

Organizers say it's all about making sure kids here in Michiana get a gift on Christmas morning.

“I think it's the best fundraiser we possibly do, it's a fun thing we do to help out the community I mean we definitely enjoy doing it,” says Marian High School Senior and Hockey Captain Graham Gates.

Last year, 25 big boxes of toys were collected at the school. The hockey team also plans to stop by our WNDU Studios Saturday morning to make a donation.
