Charities honored at Hope Community Luncheon

Members of the Michiana community gathered Thursday to pay tribute to those who have helped the area's less fortunate.

Three awards were given at Thursday’s Hope Community Luncheon.

Nole Walters, a former board member who was instrumental in starting Hope's Family Life Center, was honored, along with Harvest Bible Chapel of Granger and Project Warm.

The executive director, David Vanderveen says volunteers are a huge asset to the organization.

“This luncheon is for our whole community. We call it our community luncheon, because we invite all members of the community to come. So, we do have some of our staff and residents here, but we also have people throughout the community, people who support us through financial donation, a lot of our volunteers are here, people that serve meals, people that get involved in a lot of different ways,” said David Vanderveen, Executive Director for Hope Ministries.

This was the 59th year for the event.
