This could be "the year" that construction starts on a high-end, high-rise condo complex in downtown South Bend.

Representatives of Gameday Centers of Atlanta say they hope to break ground as early as July.

In the 13-months since the project was first proposed,
there have been a lot of changes.

But the company’s commitment to make it happen,
apparently remains unchanged.

The latest plans call for a 15-story brick building, with 189-condo units.

The estimated cost is up to $45 million.

That's three stories higher, and 69-units larger than the original proposal.

The units will range in price from $175-thousand to $400-thousand.

The company claims it has already taken reservations on 40-percent of the units.

The hope is to break ground in July or August of this year.

According to Brad Pager, President of Gameday Centers, “we still have some things we have to accomplish, but we're very, very positive about the success of the project.”

When asked about the odds that the project would move forward, Atlanta architect Michael Loia said, “greater than 90% at this point in time.”

The commitment to build comes about a month after a shakeup in the top management at Gameday Centers.

The company president who brought the project to town, left that job in December.

The plan is to market the units to die hard Notre Dame sports fans and alums...that's what Gameday has done in four other college towns.
