A reward is being offered in response to a fireworks incident in Elkhart last week which led to a dog’s death.

The Humane Society of the United States announced today that it will pay $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.

Last Friday, someone threw a lit firework at a female pit bull. The dog picked up the firework and it exploded in her mouth.

The animal’s face was so badly damaged that it had to be euthanized.

While the Elkhart Police Department continues to investigate the incident, Humane Society officials say they hope the reward prompts someone to come forward with information about the case.
