A benefit for a Benton Harbor fireman, injured on the job, pulled in more money this weekend than anyone ever expected.

Lieutenant Doug Bell was trying to put out a blaze inside a home in the 1000 block of Jennings Avenue earlier this month. He was badly burned in the fire, and is still being treated in a burn unit at a Kalamazoo hospital.

Fellow firemen threw a pancake breakfast for him Saturday to help raise funds to support him and his family.

The Herald Palladium, they raised an astounding 22-thousand-300 dollars for bell.

He was going through skin graft surgery while the benefit took place.
