The good thing about Halloween is, come tomorrow, the spooks and scares are over.

But this Halloween is a REAL fright for a local family. They have bats, real ones, in their attic.

"Probably 75 to 100 up there," explains Tony Siri from American Animal Control.

Up in the attic you can see piles of bat waste. All of the insulation is ruined.

"Between the urine saturated insulation and all the droppings all over it, it's pretty much a bad mess up there," Siri says.

It is quite a process to clean out the attic. The crews use tubes to suck out all the waste droppings. It looks like an enormous vacuum system.

Siri says often times, people do not even know bats are in their homes.

"A lot of jobs that we get on are not bat related," Siri explains. "But when we get there we find also that they do have bats. It's nasty."

Not only is it nasty, it could be dangerous. You can get a disease called histoplasmosis from breathing around bat waste.

"It's like a one in a million chance that you're ever going to get it, but if you do have bats in your house it's a good idea to get an inspection to see how much contamination is in the attic and get it removed."

Wise advice, because if you have real bats it is not a trick or a treat. It is a real problem.

My prayer is that these people do not suffer from having their home filled with this type of contamination.
