UPDATE: Teen airlifted to hospital after hit-and-run moped crash

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A 17 year-old girl was airlifted to the hospital after her moped was struck by a passing car.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on SR 120 just west of CR 131 in Elkhart County.

According to a release from the Elkhart County Sheriff's department, the teen moped driver, Tiffany Burchard, 17, was rear-ended by the driver of an unknown vehicle who left the scene.

Burchard suffered facial fractures and broke her left leg. She was not wearing a helmet.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Dept. is investigating.
