ND freshman march with Fighting Irish band for the first time

There was a familiar sound serenading those visiting the Notre Dame campus Thursday: the annual Notre Dame Band March Out on campus.

Current marching band members and incoming freshmen, hoping to march with the Fighting Irish, strutted their stuff and their instruments across campus to the delight of hundreds who gathered to watch.

It's a time honored tradition that is enjoyed by everyone on campus.

“This is one of the most exciting days of the year to see all these students lined up, one fourth of them for the very first time and by the times they've gone a minute they're locked into step, they're rolling along with the rest of the band,” said Larry Dwyer, Assistant Director of Bands.

By Sunday those trying out will know whether they will march for the Fighting Irish.

And there were even some future band members on campus doing early auditions in hopes of one day being part of the oldest college marching band in the country.
