South Bend, Ind. It was a big celebration at the East Race - marking the 30th anniversary of the waterway.
A ceremony was held at Seitz Park with past and present mayors.
Then, Buttigieg took to the water, rafting down the East Race.
More than 300,000 people have used the east race since it was first created, many coming from out of town.
“The waterway was developed as economic spur for the downtown,” Mark Bradley, Director of Marketing South Bend Parks Department explained. “Now we see a lot of construction going on, and its come to fruition. So it’s fantastic.”
The celebration also featured a rock climbing wall and other attractions for the kids who are still a little too young for the water activities.
