It takes more than 80,000 people to fill the Notre Dame Stadium, but of all those people, only 33 have had season tickets for more than 50 years.
Jack Van Paris, however, can beat that.
His family grew up in South Bend and when Jack was younger his father asked him if he wanted to go to Notre Dame.
Jack will tell you, he said no. He wanted to start working right away.
One could say Jack is making up for lost time here on campus, and then some.
Football is all about numbers. Number of games your team wins, number of games you lose, number of injuries and victories, number of yards, of years, of yearnings, the numbers on the players' jerseys and the number of journeys through that tunnel.
For a man whose number of years is 82, His most important Notre Dame numbers are 25, 33, 9, and 10.
"Every Saturday that there's a ballgame in South Bend, I'm here,” said Jack. "Every Saturday when you get here, you can walk around the parking lot. That's fine. But when you get in here, there's something about it."
If you want to be impressed by numbers, check out this statistic.
Jack has sat in those very same seats for every single Notre Dame home game, except one, for the last 70 years.
"This is the constant in my life," said Jack.
Jack came to his first Notre Dame game when he was 12 years old and it was his mom who was the football fan.
"My dad stayed and worked and my mom had to have somebody to go with, or take with her, so I was the guy."
Back then, a kids' ticket was a $1.10, and as the prices changed, so did the game.
Jack said football was "a whole lot different than it is now. Guys were playing both sides of the ball. They were playing offense and defense."
Jack also talked about what the fans wore to the games.
"Everybody was dressed up in a suit and a top coat and a hat. Every man had a hat. Women wore fur, a lot of fur. It was big time years ago. Now I wear shorts just like everybody else does."
Jack's numbers are certainly impressive, 82 years old, attending games for 70 years.
But the number of teams in which Jack is deeply loyal? Well, that number is only one.
"I still think that I'm going to live to be a 100-and-a-quarter. So, I will come to the ballgames."
Jack now lives in Illinois and still drives hours for the games.
As for the one game Jack missed, a losing record and a trip to Bermuda in the early 80's are to blame.
