Brian Kelly struck recruiting gold in his old home area on Friday. The new Irish head coach picked up a verbal commitment from Austin Collinsworth who played at Ft. Thomas Highland High School, which is just over the Ohio River from Cincinnati.
Collinsworth, who is the son of NBC football analyst Cris Collinsworth, played running back, slot receiver and defensive back for Highland. Collinsworth was a member of three state title teams, earning championship game MVP honors this past fall.
Austin had offers from Cincinnati, Oregon, Stanford and Louisville.
