A Pennsylvania college is making headlines across the nation Tuesday, for its controversial decision to provide students with easy access to Plan B.
Students at Shippensburg University can now obtain the "morning-after" pill from an unusual source, a vending machine at the campus health center.
Along with the emergency contraceptive, it offers condoms, decongestants and pregnancy tests.
The Vice President of Student Affairs says the machine was installed after a survey found 85-percent of student respondents supported it.
Dr. Roger Serr, VP Student Affairs, Shippensburg University, describes how making Plan B available through a vending machine, makes things more comfortable for students, “It's really there, the machine is really used for privacy if anything else if a person wants to come in.”
Plan B is available without a prescription to anyone 17 or older. The drug isn't covered or subsidized by the school, instead, it's supplied for $25, the school's cost to the pharmaceutical company.
