Democratic leaders in Congress are asking the White House to provide more aid to the auto industry.

In a letter yesterday to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Bush administration should consider expanding the $700 billion bailout to include car companies.

Automakers already want $50 billion in loans from Congress to help them survive tough economic conditions and pay retirees' health care obligations.

A Treasury Department spokeswoman says the department is working on ways to most effectively use the remaining bailout money to bolster the financial system and get lending moving again.

This may be a good time for them to file for bankruptcy. There is no need for the tax payer to pick this up.

What was I thinking when I said union,s are killing this country? Of course you probably think it,s fair that your union floor sweepeers are making over 30 dollars an hourplus benefits.Do you think maybe that has anything to do with the price of a car being so high that nobody can afford to buy one, plus the fact american cars fall apart after a few years.

I don't think the auto companies should be bailed out with the money from the bailout of the banks. That was not part of the package put together and signed into place by our congress and president. I feel for the auto industry and as I have taken pay cuts do to the economy, why not ask all the CEO's, UAW's and so on to take some pay cuts, health insurance cuts, etc. to help keep their jobs. That could possibly save some out going expenses and maybe some jobs too.

I am a conservative that works in a union plant, but I am not part of the union. No one should be bailed out, but that's not the reality right now, so why stop with the banks in New York? Help Michigan, lord knows Granholm hasn't, and everyone in the nation could agree we need it. As far as your "lazy union worker", productivity is up in the US and has continually gone up since the inception of the union. When you learn who W. Reuther was and what he stood for maybe we can talk. If the union is such a bad thing maybe we should illegalize them like Mexico and get their economy? Any worker that works under a contract with representation is a "lazy union worker". Most employees in the US either directly or indirectly work for a contract and thanks to unions all workers in the US have some representation through labor laws. If you don't like labor unions move to Mexico and see the effects of illegalizing them have -No middle class-.

I hope the President tells them to take a hike! No way should our government bail our the uaw and that's all this amounts to. If the big three dump the overpaid lazy union people and hire real working people at a reasonable wage they won't need money from the government. This is just typical of the democrats and their give away policies. I hope you people that voted for them are happy.
