"There's a lot of people celebrating."

That's what Ron Vaugh says about the line of people outside his Denver liquor store today.

It's the first day liquor stores can sell alcohol on Sundays under a new Colorado law.

Vaughn says his Sunday customers see today as "a historic occasion" in the state and so they're buying "mimosa mixings and everything else."

Not every liquor store opened today, though. In Boulder, the owner of Gunbarrel Liquor says he has no interest in giving up his one day off or in taking it away from his employees. Petur Petursson says: "You need a day to unwind and catch up with your families." He says most of his customers don't mind and "every other day is too hectic."

Colorado is the 35th state to allow Sunday alcohol sales at retail stores.
