Authorities say two young children reported kidnapped after a stranger offered to help when their family car broke down have been found safe.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead told The Associated Press that 3-year-old Jalen Mattison and his 1-year-old sister Amari Mattison have been located. He says he had no other details. A statewide child abduction alert was canceled.
Authorities began searching for the children after their mother told police the family's 1996 Volvo broke down early Wednesday on the side of an Atlanta-area interstate.
The mother said a stranger had stopped to help. DeKalb County police said she told investigators she was making arrangements for a tow truck when the stranger drove off with the children in a dark green Jeep Cherokee.
