Coloma and Watervliet honored for 100th meeting in high school football

It all started November 12th, 1909 at Coloma’s Sutton’s Field.

That was the first meeting between Coloma and Watervliet in high school football.

Wednesday, Michigan Representative Jon Proos met with football coaches and athletic directors from Coloma and Watervliet High Schools, in Watervliet, to congratulate the two programs.

"The hard work both teams have put into preparing for this historic game throughout the years gives the community a great sense of pride," said Proos. "The sportsmanship exhibited in this rivalry provides an excellent example for all of Southwest Michigan's athletes."

The Battle of the Ages Football Game, celebrating 100 years of rivalry, will take place in Watervliet on Aug. 28 2009.
