The Coloma softball team ended its historic run Friday with a 2-1 loss to Swan Valley in the state semifinal.

Comets pitcher Emily Najacht pitched seven innings of four-hit ball, but was undone by a two-run home run by Heather Pollick in the fourth inning.

Coloma rallied in the sixth to cut the lead in half on a Najacht two-out single. Pinch runner Jacklyn Zvonar then stole second to put the tying run in scoring position. The rally fell short when Megan Garrod flew out to centerfield.

Coloma’s run to the final four was the first in school history. Previously, the Comets had managed only as far as the District Championship.

Senior outfielder Amanda Swihart is the only Comet graduating in 2012. With nearly all of the team returning, Coloma softball will be a team to watch next season.
