Family looks for answers after young son dies
Tragedy strikes in Warsaw, as one family is coping with the unexpected death of their eighteen-month-old son.
Police were called to a south-side Warsaw home Monday after a 911 call came in around 1:30 p.m. The home on the 900 block of South Union Street was later confirmed as belonging to the boy's babysitter.
The unresponsive child was taken to the Kosciusko Community Hospital but was confirmed dead about an hour after the call. The family is still waiting on an autopsy report, but was told he may have climbed out of his crib and accidentally strangled himself.
"That's the answer I need, is you know, how did he get in that car seat, and how could he have actually gotten strangled by a car seat,” says David Brettell Payton’s Father. “You know, I can't come up with a good scenario on how it happened. I'm just waiting for that answer. I need to know that answer."
The family says they were very close to the boy's babysitter and believe anything that happened was not intentional.
