Posted: 2:42 PM Jun 30, 2012

Thousands of Michiana residents remained without power Saturday after a storm tore through the area Friday.

At the height of the storm, AEP said more than 107,000 customers were without power across northern Indiana. Another storm system that moved through the area Saturday morning caused additional service interruptions.

As of early Saturday evening, more than 2,000 remained off the grid in St. Joseph County and could be until late Sunday night.

In Elkhart County, about 250 people faced outages as of Saturday evening. Workers are hoping to restore full power there at some point Saturday.

The impact is worse across the NIPSCO electric grid.

Kosciusko County reported 2,000 outages in the heavily hit city of Warsaw, more than 900 in North Webster, and another 400 each in Mentone and Leesburg.

The communities of Syracuse and Winona Lake also showed a couple hundred outages.

Starke County suffered around 700 outages, primarily across Knox and North Judson.

In Marshall County, Culver reported around 1,300 outages.

A few more than 300 customers in Fulton County are still without electricity as of Saturday evening.
