The Elkhart Jazz Festival kicked off Thursday at the Lerner Theater.
Dave Bennett and the Elkhart Municipal Band started things off with a free concert.
It is the 25th anniversary of the Jazz Festival, so the concert was a way to say "thanks" for many successful years.
"The Elkhart jazz festival wanted to be able give back to the community as thanks for all the years of its tremendous support of this great local event,” said Jazz Festival Committee Member Gin Leichty. “So that was part of the importance for providing this special concert tonight."
The Jazz Festival officially starts Friday in downtown Elkhart, and runs through Sunday.
