Century Center opens new pavilion

Get ready for "Meet Me on the Island" In a brand new setting.

The Century Center unveiled the new Island Pavilion Thursday, which promises to be another scenic fixture in downtown South Bend.

A reception marked the opening Thursday, but was moved inside because of the weather.

It comes just in time, because the popular summer event, "Meet Me on the Island" is next Friday.

"I think it's going to provide a lot of opportunity,” said Jill Scicchitano, Century Center General Manager. “I think we're going to see a lot of different things on the island, whether, it's breakfast, brunch, receptions, a lot of special events. We're getting a lot inquiries now, which is great. So it's a great opportunity and something neat and new for the city to celebrate."

The pavilion at the Century Center's Island Park is also open to the public.
