One injured after burglars invade South Bend family's home

Two armed men entered the home of a South Bend family early Tuesday morning.

It happened just after 4 a.m. in the 1000 block of north Ironwood Drive.

The husband, wife and their 15-year-old son and 16-year-old nephew had been sleeping.

Two men were wearing black masks and forced themselves inside by kicking down the front door.

The father was hurt after a fight between him and one of the suspects. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say his wife heard him yell, "don't shoot", and was pulled out of bed by her hair into the hallway where the two gunmen kept screaming, "where's the money".

She escaped to a neighbor's house and dialed 911. The wife says her husband has been known to keep cash at the home and the robbers may have been people they know.
