More brain matter on the road ...great !!!

Unfortunately, you are right. Michigan needs to do away with the MCCA (for all vehicles), and likewise, set clear minimum coverage requirements. If you choose not to wear a helmet, fine, as long as your medical coverage and disability coverage is a minimum of $250,000. And if you don't have the necessary coverage requirements and are caught riding without a helmet, the fines should be significant, including loss of motorcycle endorsement. And if you are in an accident without the necessary coverage, when your coverage ends, you are on your own. No catastrophic claims payment, no public assistance, no disability beyond your own insurance.

put seat belts on them

I feel it should be up to the rider. But like seat belts it should be a choice not a law. I really do not like our government telling me what I can and can't do.

Now I can visit love ones in that state during the summer !!! I must also give a thank you the govaner for allowing us to have our freedom of choice.

do you need the government to make all your choices for you?

In other words: 1 - Personal freedom increased by Snyder. 2 - Liberals are hopping mad about it! :-)

Seriously, one of the most lame bills ever signed. Another poor decision made by Gov Snyder...the hits just keep coming. Ugh!

Not sure where your going with this. Do you want to wear a helmet while you have an abortion? Do you want they unborn fetus to wear a helmet? Do you want to ban abortion except for rape?

But you WILL pick up the tab. When they become disabled....guess who pays?!

It's about time. We the people should be able to make personal choices as long as it doesn't bring harm to others. Our government, both at the state and federal levels, should but out and afford us the freedoms that we were granted by the constitution. Whether it's seatbelts, helmets, abortion or any one of a hundred other topics. We have the right to make personal decisions without interference from politicians with hidden aggendas and personal gain on their minds.

This law finally passed giving the rider the right to choose. Many Motorcyclists avoided Michigan tourism on motorcycles because of the helmet law. I personally use a helmet and will continue to do so. Now most of the Great Lakes States honor the freedom of the cyclist.

Definitely the rider's right to choose as long as I am not expected to pick up the tab if he/she ends up on disability or on life support for the next 5-50 years. Then again, I think anyone stupid not enough to wear a helmet and protective gear should be prepared for the potential consequences. I know wearing gear saved my life when an older driver pulled out in front of me a few years ago. Car totaled - bike totaled - me: unhurt.

You're gonna let me risk killing myself and suffering severe head trauma and possible death by not wearing a helmet... but you don't want me to have an abortion if I've been a victim of rape... Yep.. Makes sense. Complete sense.
Posted by: sense on Apr 13, 2012 at 07:51 AM

what sense does this make? you force people to wear seat belts in vehicles which can save a person or kill them depending on the circumstance, but allow a motorcyclist the choice to not wear a helmet which can only hurt them, because they should have the choice? Why not a choice to wear seat belts or not if your over 21? can anyone explain the logic in this to me?
