Hoosier Tank to make national TV debut Thursday night

One local company, Hoosier Tank of South Bend, will make its national television debut Thursday night.

Last summer, a film crew from the science channel show How it's Made spent 14 hours shooting at Hoosier Tank, documenting how the factory's 89 employees make air tanks for truck brakes.

The show will feature everything from the factory's automated stamping and welding to final quality control checks.

Hoosier Tank says they enjoyed seeing how TV shows are made.

“It was interesting, they're not real used to being in a weld shop environment, so they wanted to get real close to the welders and get all the shots they needed, vey detail oriented,” says Andy Kinnucan of Hoosier Tank. “They wanted to get right up in the shot and make sure they get exactly what the process is, start to finish. They got lots of shots stamping, lots of welding, process of taking steel from a coil form and turning it into an air tank, from start to finish.”

It took six months for the show to send a rough edit to Hoosier Tank. And yes, they did get to review the script and footage before final editing.

The episode airs Thursday night at 9 p.m. on the Science Channel. Also in Thursday night's episode: how frosted cereal is made.
