A western Indiana sheriff says tracker dogs searching for a missing 12-year-old girl lost her scent at a roadway and police are now operating under the assumption that the sixth-grader might have been abducted.
Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing says the dogs used Wednesday in the search for Alyssa Sedletzeck followed her scent near the Terre Haute neighborhood where she lives. He says that trail ended at a road, suggesting she got into a car and left with someone.
Ewing says the FBI is helping in the investigation.
He says Alyssa's cellphone hasn't been used since she was last seen about 6:30 p.m. Sunday near her home. Authorities have subpoenaed her cellphone records and seized her computer to determine with whom she had recently been in contact.
