A southern Indiana county hard-hit by March tornadoes has spent $825,000 just to clear out streams clogged with storm debris.
The News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/LQx1pF ) that the Clark County Commissioners approved invoices for the stream cleanup work that's being funding by a federal grant.
Commissioner Les Young says some of the cleanup costs have already been paid, but the county is responsible for coming up with a 25% match in funding.
The county has submitted cleanup costs to the Federal Emergency Management Agency that have totaled more than $1.5 million.
Certified public accountant and county consultant Jill Oca says there's still an estimated $300,000 worth of work yet to be done on more permanent repairs, including fixing storm-damaged roads.
