Silver Hawks volunteer support to Mishawaka Little League

Hard times for Mishawaka Little League are inspiring generosity from a minor league team with a shared love of the game.

The Mishawaka Little League has been hit with more than $10,000 in damages in the past year, from arson in their equipment shed, to a stolen air conditioner, break-ins and graffiti.

“It’s really disheartening to see this happening to kids who just want to have a good time,” Little League President Alan Mueller says.

Mishawaka Little League shared their story on 16 Morning News earlier this month, catching the attention of South Bend Silver Hawks President Joe Hart.

Hart pledged $500 to the Mishawaka Little League, and volunteered to host an equipment drive in the spring. Anyone who donates will receive two tickets to a Silver Hawks game in April.

Hart says the Silver Hawks love to help community groups, especially one that brings kids to the sport.
“Who knows, one of them could be playing for us one day,” he jokes.

As a non-profit, the Little League is also seeking donations from community members and businesses. They will be holding their annual fundraiser coming up on March 23 from 5-10 p.m. at 410 Laurel St. in Mishawaka. You can also go to any Teachers Credit Union location and ask to donate to the Mishawaka Little League fund, or email MishawakaLL@gmail.com
