Salvation Army "Finding Christmas" Campaign begins

It's the holiday season, and with the red kettles out, you'll find more than just bell ringers helping to collect donations.

The Salvation Army has started their "Finding Christmas" QR Campaign. It's an interactive scavenger hunt in St. Joseph County that asks people to find Christmas by collecting badges, points, prizes, and coupons.

All you need to do is use your smartphone to scan the red, shield-shaped QR codes you find at red kettle sites, local businesses and other places around town.

Along with learning facts about the Salvation Army and the area, the campaign is also meant to encourage red kettle donations to help local families in need find Christmas, too.

“It's not just where you see the red kettle, you'll be able to get some information off of the QR code and it may direct you to somewhere,” says Major Bob Webster of the Salvation Army. “It keeps everybody interactive in the season and a lot of fun. It's awesome to have fun, while you are also helping the community.”

One jeweler in town has even donated a pair of diamond ear rings for a lucky winner who finds Christmas.

You can get started now by going to findingchristmas.org, just scan your first code and register to play! QR codes will start popping up around the county this coming week.

The hunt ends on Christmas Eve.
