Walt Disney Elementary teacher formally charged, affidavit released

Charges have been filed against a teacher at a Penn Harris Madison School after police say he sent inappropriate text messages to a former female student.

Eric West, 30, is a teacher at Walt Disney Elementary. On Monday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office charged West with Inappropriate Communication With A Child, a class A misdemeanor.

Police say West sent inappropriate text messages to a former 12-year-old former student in July. West had been the student's 5th grade teacher.

The Osceola resident is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 18. at 8 a.m.
