A new study of more than 16-hundred children found those who were overweight had small vascular changes in the retina.
Changes to eye vessels may be an early indicator of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Similar studies in adults have reached the same conclusion.
This time, researchers used children to eliminate the chance their enlarged blood vessels were due to an already existing condition.
