Cancer death rates are a large concern across the country.

They continue to run higher for African-Americans than the overall population.

A new report from the American Cancer Society says the death rate was 35 percent higher in African-American men and 18 percent higher in African-American women.

Lung cancer was the most common cause of death.

The situation is improving, but researchers say African-Americans are still more likely to be diagnosed at later stages of the disease.

When that happens, there are fewer and less effective treatments.
