Many people drink red wine for its apparent heart-healthy benefits.
New research indicates wines from certain parts of the world may be most beneficial.
Researchers say higher levels of procyanidins are key. And, wines from southwest France and Sardinia have the highest amounts.
These wines have five to 10 times more of the beneficial compound than other tested wines.
Traditional winemaking methods used in these regions may explain the higher level of procyanidins, but more research needs to be done.
