Extreme makeover TV shows are tempting enough to make most of us wonder how we too might be transformed.
In May, a dentist, plastic surgeon, and eye doctor, spent an afternoon at University Park Mall.
The team of physicians was offering an extreme medical makeover, and over two hundred people lined up for the chance to win.
The doctors were not looking to turn someone into a super model, but wanted to help one Michiana resident uncomfortable with their looks, who could not afford the services that millions of Americans pay for every year.
Dr. Jeffrey Madder says, “We’re looking for someone who is ashamed of their appearance, ashamed by their smile.”
“Someone that is unhappy with any of their facial appearance,” says Dr. Daniel Danahey.
The total package would include the following; chemical peels, cosmetic surgery, lasik eye surgery, a new smile including veneers, Botox and restylane injections, makeup, hair and clothes.
The price tag of this transformation is 60 thousand dollars.
One month later, Michiana voted on WNDU.com and the doctors made their choice.
Catherine Mathews of Mishawaka was chosen for the extreme makeover and all three doctors converged on her home one afternoon in July with the good news.
Catherine was ecstatic and humbled; a single mother most of her life, she has raised 5 children and now has 8 grandchildren she often cares for.
She is now married, but her kids say she always did without, and always took care of their needs.
Catherine says there is one part of her she really wanted to fix.
“My teeth, I've been wanting to get them done forever. I was a single mom for a lot of years so that just kind of got put on the background for a lot of years,” says Cathy.
What she has put on hold for years, would drastically change in a few short months.
With no time to waste, Cathy had an appointment the very next week with Dr. Daniel Danahey, her plastic surgeon.
One of the first steps was to begin getting Cathy’s skin in shape.
The next step was to talk about the physical changes Cathy wanted to make.
Her nose is a feature that bothers her also, so they started by taking before and after pictures.
“It will be subtle beautification. There is no procedure that will alter any one aspect of her facial features. She has nice features. She has nice features. The changes are more age related. The nose is something she was born with, so that will be something where there will be a little more alternations apparent,” says Dr. Danahey.
Tune in tomorrow at five as Cathy’s amazing makeover continues.
She will return to Dr. Danahey's office for her rhinoplasty, which means she is having her nose fixed.
Just one of the many changes you will see for Cathy.
