30th Annual Great American Smokeout

People across the country are taking part in the 30th Annual Great American Smokeout Thursday, in an effort to be smoke-free.

Here in Michiana, the American Cancer Society is working with the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center urging people to kick the habit both for the day and for good.

Each year, more than 440,000 people die from smoking.

Quitting isn't easy, but you do not have to go through it alone.

Jill Sabo, a tobacco educational coordinator says, "Support is huge! Research indicates that your chances of success are far greater if you have support. That's one of the reasons why we're running the Adopt-a-Smoker Program today at the hospital."

Research says your body begins to heal itself only five minutes after your last cigarette.
