Whether it's removing age spots or tightening sagging skin, lasers are often the weapons of choice to fight aging.
Now, there's a laser to target the trouble spots around the eyes, and it virtually pain free.
Dr. Eliot Battle said, "Whether it's wrinkles, whether it's dark spots, whether it's puffiness, whether it's crows feet, this laser therapy can improve the entire area."
Dermatologist Dr. Eliot battle calls that a breakthrough, because until recently, cosmetic lasers and the eyes didn't mix.
"We couldn't do lasers around the eyes, because of the fear of the retina absorbing light and causing injury. This is an unbelievable treatment we are doing now," Dr. Battle said.
The new treatment is made possible with something called alluma, a dual action device that uses radio frequency energy and doesn't affect the eyes.
"When you see the blue light come on, it is showing the laser is suctioning and giving energy," said Dr. Battle.
Doctor Battle says the alluma therapy works in several ways:
It stimulates collagen growth, filling in lines; it tightens ligaments, improving sagging skin, and it kills blood vessels, lightening up dark circles.
Patty Lynn Pumphrey, alluma patient said, "I wanted to decrease the fine lines, and some of the puffiness."
Feeling facials and cosmetic creams weren't doing the trick; Patty Lynn Pumphrey tried alluma.
"I do like it, I can see results after just one treatment," Pumphrey said.
Patients may notice subtle results right away, but it usually takes a few treatment sessions over a period of several months to get the full effect.
Patty Lynn Pumphrey doesn't mind; she says the treatment is pain free.
Each treatment costs about $250.
Because the device is so new, doctors don't know yet how long the results last.
