A former restaurant worker is accused of telling a customer that he had to take his service dog out of a Grand Rapids-area eatery.
The Grand Rapids Press reports that 20-year-old Nataly Bucio was arraigned Wednesday in Kent County District Court on a misdemeanor charge of denying service to Frank Eckl. He says his dog is equipped with a jacket containing medication for a disability stemming from his time in the Air Force during the Persian Gulf War.
Bucio's attorney says his client hopes to work out a deal with prosecutors but is prepared to fight the accusation. He says Bucio was only acting according to the policy of the former Don Julio's restaurant in Cascade Township.
The newspaper reports the restaurant closed late last month.
