Officials are preparing to announce which Detroit schools will move to a new statewide educational system, come under management of charter operators, or close.

Detroit Public Schools emergency manager Roy Roberts and
Education Achievement System Chancellor John Covington are detailing their plans Wednesday morning for the 2012-13 academic
year.

The recommendations go to the Education Achievement Authority
board and executive committee, which meets Feb. 9.

The Education Achievement System will assume operation of the 5 percent of state schools with the lowest academic performance. It
starts in Detroit in September and expands statewide a year later.

Under the new system, school control is placed in the hands of
principals, teachers and staff.

Separately, Roberts is releasing lists of Detroit schools to
close or go to charter operators.
