The Wayne County Sheriff's Department says one of its deputies fatally shot a drug suspect who was dragging the deputy with his car while trying to flee.
The department says in a statement that officers saw a drug deal Monday on Detroit's east side and stopped the suspect. It says the
suspect suddenly drove off, with the deputy's arm caught in the driver's side door.
The department says officers repeatedly warned the suspect to stop. It says the trapped deputy feared for his life and fired. It says the deputy was treated at a hospital and released.
Detroit police are investigating.
The names of the dead suspect and the deputy weren't immediately
released.
