Authorities believe a body that was recovered from the Detroit River near Amherstburg, Ontario is that of a Detroit-area woman who has been missing since January.
Grosse Pointe Farms police said in a statement that the body was found Saturday by a fisherman, who notified Canadian authorities.
Detectives from Grosse Pointe Farms tentatively identified the body as that of Joann Matouk Romain. The 55-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman last was seen Jan. 12 at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Farms.
Officials said police found a set of footprints in the snow that led from Romain's car to Lake St. Clair.
An autopsy was planned for Monday to confirm the identity and determine a cause of death.
