Hundreds of strip club opponents and a smaller number of employees and other supporters of the clubs have packed a Detroit City Council hearing on whether to tighten adult business regulations.

A crowd overflowed Monday from the 550-seat council auditorium. Most speakers called for stricter limits on the clubs, such as banning alcohol sales.

A proposal before the council would ban VIP rooms and physical contact between customers and dancers and require licensing of employees. A vote could come Tuesday.

Gospel music legend and minister Marvin Winans says the council should respond to the public's demand for more restrictions.

All Stars club worker Kweli Buffalo says the clubs provide needed employment in a tight economy.
