Police have arrested an Arizona man who pleaded guilty to trafficking in more than 2,200 pounds of marijuana but failed to appear for sentencing in federal court in Detroit.
Lake Havasu City police Sgt. Joe Harrold says his officers got a tip that 56-year-old Gregory S. Nelson was staying with family in the western Arizona city. Officers watched the house, confirmed that Nelson was there and arrested him after a struggle in the home's backyard on Thursday night.
Federal court records show Nelson was one of 13 people indicted in April 2008. He pleaded guilty in January under a plea deal that called for a sentence of 8 to 10 years in prison, but failed to appear for sentencing in September.
He is being held on a local resisting arrest charge until the FBI can arrange for his return to Detroit.
