Two men will serve lengthy prison sentences after being found guilty of beating and robbing a World War II veteran in his Livingston County home.
Harry Riley of Ohio and Noah Richard Lovell III of Plainwell were convicted last month of armed robbery, first-degree home invasion, unlawful imprisonment and torture charges in the October 2008 attack on John Pickett.
Howell radio station WHMI-FM reports Circuit Judge Michael Hatty on Friday sentenced the 38-year-old Riley to a prison term of 88 years and four months, to 135 years. The 33-year-old Lovett was sentenced to between 50 and 95 years.
Pickett, now 84, was hospitalized for two months with injuries suffered in the attack. Riley's attorney had argued his client was "misidentified." Lovell's lawyer said few facts supported the charges against his client.
