Federal prosecutors in Detroit are urging a judge to keep a man affiliated with a motorcycle club behind bars while they develop charges that could lead to a life sentence.
Aref Nagi of Sterling Heights has been in custody since October 2006. Prosecutors fear he could flee if released before trial on charges of conspiring to sell drugs.
But Nagi's lawyer says authorities can keep track of him with an electronic tether.
Ahead of a hearing Wednesday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Diane Marion says a new indictment with racketeering charges is in the works. It's part of a long-running investigation of the Highwaymen motorcycle club.
A message seeking comment was left with Nagi's attorney Tuesday.
