The Houghton County prosecutor has cleared a sheriff's deputy of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a man who attacked the officer.
Prosecutor Douglas Edwards says Deputy Mark Bukovich was justified in using force against Don Bailey, who died in the Sept. 17 clash in Osceola Township.
The Daily Mining Gazette of Houghton reported Wednesday that Edwards reached his decision after watching a video of the incident recorded by a camera in Bukovich's car.
Bukovich responded to a report of a neighborhood disturbance, and 41-year-old Bailey attacked him with a golf club.
The video shows the deputy trying to get away. He eventually fell, and Bailey continued hitting him as Bukovich fired several shots, one of which struck the deputy in the ankle.
