The state will get $3.6 million in federal stimulus funds to begin rehabilitating a railroad station in Battle Creek.

U.S. Transportation officials say in a release Thursday that the money is part of $40 million earmarked for Michigan for high-speed intercity passenger rail.

The Battle Creek station is in southwestern Michigan along the rail route between Detroit and Chicago.

Interior lobbies, restrooms, ticket areas and offices will be renovated. The building's exterior will be refaced and get new lighting.

Michigan's funding also will help construct a station building, platform and passenger services at a new Amtrak station in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn. The money will help build a new platform and passenger services facility in the suburb of Troy.
