A well-known South Bend police officer and Common Council president suffered minor injuries this morning after an accident involving a truck.
It happened just before 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Portage and Auten in St. Joseph County.
Police at the scene say officer Derek Dieter was heading north on Portage when a truck pulled up behind him and slid through the three-way stop, hitting the back of his patrol car.
Dieter was taken to the hospital by ambulance to be checked out for minor neck and back pain.
The driver of the truck was unharmed.
The patrol car suffered only cosmetic damage to the bumper.
