The current Indiana State Treasurer is circling the Hoosier State, but he is not talking about his current position.
Richard Mourdock just filed paperwork to run for U.S. Senate in the Republican primary.
On Wednesday morning, Treasurer Mourdock stopped by Newscenter 16 to chat about some of the issues he will be facing during primary season.
He will face Senator Dick Lugar, who has been in the U.S. senate for 36 years.
Mourdock says he was encouraged to run to renew true conservative values in the Republican Party that have been lost during Lugar's term.
Mourdock says, “Without question, when you run against a 36-year incumbent who has 99% name ID, that is a challenge, but still, while there is an overwhelming sense that there is great respect for Senator Lugar, there is a sense that there is time for someone else.”
Mourdock is from the Evansville area.
He recently submitted the 13,000 votes required to be placed on the ballot.
